The Subscription We Picked to Keep Us Awake During Finals

Back in our college dorm, coffee wasn’t just a drink; it was a secret study weapon. With Bean Box’s amazing flavors, we turned simple brewing into games, quizzes, and memory tricks that made even the toughest exams a little more enjoyable.

So last year, when our finals were approaching, we were all stressed out. During the semester, we spent our dorm life in games and fun, but as finals drew near, it felt like a nuclear bomb had dropped on us. We had tons of syllabus to cover, and it seemed nearly impossible to finish everything in the time we had left.

We all collectively agreed to stay up late every night and study together as a group. But the problem was none of us could actually stay up that late on our own, and nothing seemed to help. That’s when we decided to get coffee. We ended up finding a really helpful solution and ordered our own coffee subscription.

That decision really helped all of us power through our late-night study sessions and get through finals.

Selecting the Ideal Coffee Subscription

So when we decided we wanted to get coffee, one of our friends immediately recommended a brand called Bean Box. Bean Box delivers specialty coffee right to your door. Instead of buying regular grocery store coffee, Bean Box works with small coffee roasters who create high-quality beans. They roast the beans fresh and send them to customers in different boxes or subscription plans.

Since we all just wanted a coffee, we decided to go for it, and it turned out to be the best decision ever.

How Bean Box Works

Here is how it works:

  • Choose a box or subscription plan
  • They send fresh coffee beans or ground coffee
  • You brew it at home (French press, pour‑over, espresso, etc.)
  • Try new flavors each month

Impressions and Benefits of Bean Box

So when it arrived, we were all really impressed; it felt like something new had happened in our dorm life. Each coffee had a completely unique flavor, and we got even more excited about it. Here’s how this subscription helped us in our studies.

First of all, the coffee really helped us stay up late at night so we could study. The flavors were so enjoyable that it became a real motivation for us,  not just to wake up for studying, but also to enjoy the coffee.

We used to get so excited about which flavor we might receive each day. Some of us would even study the material beforehand so we could fully enjoy the coffee in peace when it arrived.

This way, all of us covered the entire syllabus before the final had even started.

How We Brewed Bean Box

Here is how we used to brew it:

  • Making the coffee: One of us would always volunteer to scoop the grounds and start the drip brewer, usually whoever was awake first.
  • Pouring and handing out cups: Another would grab the mugs, line them up, and serve everyone while the coffee finished brewing.
  • Cleaning up: Someone else would rinse the mugs and tidy the brewer after we were done.
  • Rotating duties: We took turns every day, so no one was stuck with the early-morning grind forever, and everyone got a chance to be “barista” or “cup collector.”
  • Timing: From start to finish, it usually took 5–7 minutes

Learning Techniques with Coffee Flavors

Coffee didn’t just keep us awake; it became a study tool and a ritual:

Flavor Focus Sessions

We’d assign each other a flavor tweak: cinnamon one night, vanilla the next, a splash of chocolate powder another. The rule was simple: guess the flavor before you sip. If you guessed correctly, you got to choose who read the next chapter out loud (whether they liked it or not). Somehow, that made cognitive psychology feel like a game instead of a relentless syllabus.

Memorocation

One of our favorite tricks was what we called “memorocation.” Before a big exam, say History of Ancient Civilizations, we’d pair a specific coffee taste with a chunk of material:

  • Cinnamon + Mesopotamia
  • Vanilla + Ancient Egypt
  • Cocoa + Greek Mythology

Every time we sipped that combo, we’d recite whatever our brain was stuck on. Later, when that flavor hit our tongue, the memory clicked, almost like a weird taste‑triggered recall.

Coffee Quiz Game

Whenever we brewed a new Bean Box bag, we’d turn it into a mini-quiz session. One of us would whip up a few questions from the syllabus. Like bio terms, Psych theories, or Calc formulas, and everyone had to answer before taking their first sip. Get it right, and you earn your coffee; get it wrong, and you wait until the next round.

If you guessed the coffee’s flavor notes correctly, you got to steal a question or assign one to someone else. It made cramming feel like a game show.

Now, when I look back at the time we pulled this coffee stunt during finals, I remember how memorable that study phase was. Almost all of us ended up with good marks on those exams. I can never forget the role Bean Box played in it. It was totally our idea to come up with these games and learning techniques, but the initial spark came from the amazing flavors of Bean Box coffee. So, if you also have an exam coming up, you can try this too.
